I found some pictures of a Canadian icebreaking ferry called the Abegweit, built in 1947. It looks pretty similar apart from the arrangement at the stern, which I suppose might have altered over the years:

That's a ro-ro ramp at the stern. The ship in the painting is very similar granted but no ramp.
