# Find the median. 12, 8 , 5, 6, 1, 10, 13, 11

**Solution:**

The median of any data array is the middle position of that array.

Before determining the median of the given data one must arrange it in an ascending or descending order:

1, 5, 6, 8, 10, 11, 12, 13

The above data has 8 items arranged in ascending order.

Since the number of terms is even the median is the average of n/2^{th} and n/2 +1 ^{th }terms

n/2 = 8/2 = 4

n/2 +1 - 1/2 +1 = 4 +1 = 5

The 4^{th} and 5^{th} terms are 8 and 10.

The average of the 4th and 5th items = (8 + 10)/2 = 9

The Median = (8 + 10)/2 = 9

## Find the median. 12, 8 , 5, 6, 1, 10, 13, 11

**Summary: **

The median of the data array 12, 8 , 5, 6, 1, 10, 13, 11 is 9.
