Have anyone seen one of these before? My bet would be on a tea bowl but I wouldn't bet much...
I think it's porcelain with thin black, lightly porous glaze. It looks like a good quality item.
Not sure about the mark neither, it looks like PGG Surrender

I think the first mark is the right way up. Looks like PJGC, with dots to indicate the year it was made.
Not a tea bowl. More like a handleless jug.

I've just come across a couple of porcelain pots by Philippa Cronin, 1970s-80s, who signed her work PJC. It's a possibility. However, I don't have an example of the mark for comparison.

Interesting lead Naomi, I couldn't find the mark neither but her modern shapes show a bit of similarity. http://www.photostore.org.uk/seMORE.aspx?MID=186&CAT=ARCHIVE

I have also found similar design by Mick Morgan at: http://www.artmatters.org.uk/artist/mick-morgan but I doub't it his work.
Philippa Cronin is definetely worth investigating though.

That's interesting, the only problem is I'm in Edinburgh  Sad and no chances I could have a look.
I will send them  an email though, if they retailed it they may reply...
