Attractive little teabowl? with raised decoration to the outside and nice glaze to the interior, porcelain I think, no marks. Any pointers gratefully received.

Could be a Japanese piece but not a teabowl (the foot is not correct). Likely to be factory made if it is Japanese but would have be thrown rather than mechanically made.

I like it. Looks to be porcelain. A shame it's not marked. Might be Japanese or by someone potting in the Japanese style.

thanks for the info, I know very little about Japanese pottery does that mean tea bowls usually have a foot? if so would a better description be a noodle bowl? its about 4.25" in diameter.

Sounds a bit small for noodles.

Yes, and to many Japanese connoisseurs the foot is the most important thing about the bowl. I have even got into the habit of looking at the foot first. These are not necessarily complicated but a foot or foot ring are important.

Otherwise the size of your bowl would meet the criteria for a chawan (teabowl) but it is likely to be a rice bowl.
