Re: Signatures of Artist Please help
Welcome to the forum.
I googled cityscape painting ladies and several popped up on google images, similar to yours, ie painted with a pallet knife, with retreating figures wearing raincoats and with umbrellas. They are listed on sites selling large paintings relatively cheaply, and without any mention of an artist. Such paintings are churned out of China and Eastern Europe by a production line of jobbing artists and art students. Sometimes they bear signatures but they are usually just forenames or, like yours, illegible.
Their value is based on size and how decorative they are, rather than on who painted them.

Hello Thankyou Naomi
I purchased these two oil paintings on canvas from a reputable auction where they were selling fine art and some painting were genuine Gordon King ( which I should of purchased also) I was just keen to get a value on them as I am considering to sell them. Also the painting with the couple in paris, I saw replica copies on ebay without the artists signature and the quality was not as good as mine.
Thank you once again for your help

Re: Signatures of Artist Please help
I certainly don't want to disparage your paintings but looking at the signatures from a handwriting analysis side, the letter formation doesn't flow. It does seem like someone who wasn't familiar with our alphabet (i.e. Chinese) might have simulated a signature.
I'm quite prepared to be proven totally wrong though :)

If you think the auction house misrepresented the paintings in their catalogue, then you may be able to get your money back. But they really should have known better.

We get a lot of these sorts of paintings uploaded on the forum. Harbours + boats, and mountains + lakes, are also common.

Re: Signatures of Artist Please help
I Haven't been misplaced by the auction, I was stating Paris as this is how a copied version was listed on ebay. I think it may be Shanghai.
I am looking to sell both paintings and was just looking at a value as these painting are big in size (100cm x 100cm & 150cm x 50 cm)
Thanks for everyones help

Re: Signatures of Artist Please help
I'm afraid we don't give values; it depends on what anyone's prepared to pay for it.

Re: Signatures of Artist Please help
what does the reverse side look like? if that is shanghai it could be a contemporary piece
Re: Signatures of Artist Please help
to be frank I thought Chinese import the second I set eyes on it which means (if I'm correct) the present market value is £20 or less

Re: Signatures of Artist Please help
Maybe double that for the big canvas.dantheman wrote:to be frank I thought Chinese import the second I set eyes on it which means (if I'm correct) the present market value is £20 or less
But you can ask what you want for it. Someone unfamiliar with Chinese imports might think they're getting a bargain.

Re: Signatures of Artist Please help
but if it is a contemporary painting of shanghai it could have more interest if it is from Dafen (most paintings are with 10,000 artists at work) then its another matter
Re: Signatures of Artist Please help
so not the Eiffel tower then?
