Anyone familiar with this artist?
Oil painting on a canvas like material, a material that I can't recall ever seeing before. I think the signature is pepin. This is situated at the bottom right hand corner. I removed the frame only to find another signature in the middle of the canvas material, as can be seen in one of the pictures. The further you stand from the oil painting, the painting looks very realistic. Can anyone help with identification and likely period please.

Re: Anyone familiar with this artist?
I suspect it's modern. The style is very quick and impressionistic. Probably by a street artist, selling to tourists. Both signatures are the same word - Pepin or Pepiv. Pepin is French, so may be from France.

However, because the signatures don't match, and its a harbour scene that could be anywhere, I suspect its from china.

Modern Chinese appears right to me. It seems that they'll do anything to make a few bob from exports - it'll be pottery next, mark my words.

I agree with either suggestion, but I do think it's a nice looking picture regardless. Thought I don't think much of the frame/mount personally

Yes, the frame mount has much to be desired. Modern I would of thought, lovely painting though. I'm enclined to agree with NaomiM, that the painting is probably by a street artist. My only reason for this, is that the material/canvas would be easy to carry around, assuming it would of been on a role. Thanks for all your help.
