the colour of this said "burmantofts" to me, as did the style of numbers underneath, but there's no impressed Burmantofts mark or BF type mark. So, what do people think, burmantofts? Ault? Bretby?

Bretby tend in the main to be marked , not always but mostly , Ault have a lot that aren't marked , Linthorpe is also a possibility .

Shock no Big Laughter

I mean right in the center circle and very faint, if there is a mark there, shining a torch would make it more visible.

That said, if I remember correctly Linthorpe did use a small impressed circle as a mark (like the one below the number), but it had to be a certain diameter to be Linthorpe, but I cant remember what size it was.

83 (impressed) - a glaze indicating
mark - sometimes this mark occurs
as a singlecircle 1/16th inch diameter

Assuming it is British I would expect it to be either Burmantofts or Linthorpe, I don't know either way but am leaning slightly towards Burmantofts.

May be worth asking a Art Pottery collector / dealer, as bet someone with more experience would know right away.

Burmantofts took on a lot of ex linthorpe workers and began using similar styles as well , Ault used 3 numbers in their form , linthorpe used 3 & 4 , I'll go for Linthorpe ,but as you say only an avid collector will probably know for sure .

Try looking in the pocket of the fleece you put on because it was unseasonally cold but don't normally wear because it's a violent shade of puce... Big Laughter

Still inconclusive to be honest, if you want to be sure you could always try contacting the Dorman Museum, somewhere there should know.
