Re: Charles Bound
I do have one of his teabowls, which I am very pleased with, but have been disappointed in what I have seen of his work recently. A shame as I do want to acquire more.

Now if that was toffee, that would be lovely.

You're quite right Naomi - I don't normally do this (honest) but I did put it to my lips after photographing.

Re: Charles Bound
Getting the subject back to Charles .. I had the pleasure of spending some time with him... and think you either get it or not but I get it completely... he makes what he feels like without any commercial intent... which gives his work freedom and the lack of polished refinement... expected of other potters ...we purchased three pieces from him..and i just hope i have his strength and vigour at his age... ask your self at 74 would you be able to fill an anagama and fire it over a week... amazing !!!!!!

Re: Charles Bound
One of my complaints about the work of a number of potters working in Britain today, especially the under 50s, is that their work is too contrived and leaves me cold. I know Charles Bound is from an older generation but his work never seems contrived to me and maybe other potters ought to take note.
That doesn't mean I like every pot that he makes, just that some are fantastic.

Re: Charles Bound
I gave up on auctions several years ago because these days things tend to go for sums that I would be too embarrassed to ask, if they'll any good. However looking through the sale where you bought these pieces it did seem as if some things went for reasonable prices and I might well have bought myself to re-sell.
As there were several pieces by potters relatively close to the saleroom, I imagine that the Bound pieces could well have come directly from Charles himself.

Re: Charles Bound
There was a large bowl in the sale which didn’t sell. I would have been tempted to go for it too but I’m thankful I didn’t. That piece above is quite heavy and although they were wrapped well it’s possible that it could have smashed the little teabowl let alone anything else packed with it.

Re: Charles Bound
I saw those and when I have visited Charles I have seen many and have been tempted...…………. but how do you show them?
Trevor, who started the Harlequin Gallery back in 1990, has one on the floor of his living room. He lives alone and doesn't have many visitors but when I go around it has almost caught me out once or twice!!
