Having difficulty identifying this unusual looking vase. I believe it to be earthenware but have no idea of the period and designer. It was purchased amongst a job lot. Your help is appreciated.

Looks like stoneware, my guess would be around the 80's.

No idea who made it sorry.

Your probably right Potty. There are no identifiable markings which does not help in my search either. The vase appears to be very well made though.

Hello Potty, I was shopping today and came accross this stoneware lidded bowl below that bares similarities to this vase. Is this any help to you?

Hi Flintztone,

No use to me sorry, I'm drawing a blank on this one, but feel I should know it.

Charmouth Pottery is my best guess.

You could be right Potty. I've just looked up Charmouth pottery and found some that do have that design. Happy

It's best to start a new thread for each Id unless you're positive it's by the same potter.

Hi NaoiM, I'm positive but could be proven wrong, it's by the same potter, but that is only based on the pattern design and the internal base, that has a protruding spiral finish. I'm sure with your expertese, determine whether this should be started in a new thread or not. Please let me know if you feel it should be, and I will see that it is done immediately. Thanks for your info. Happy

Here are both items taken together under artificial lighting and that's not to say it proves my theory. Happy

Certainly seems to be one of his - maybe an early work.
According to an article I found (link on this thread: https://www.20thcenturyforum.com/t9784-mike-hendrick-charmouth-pottery) he made over 10,000 pieces, and some were pretty wacky.

I think his designs are very unique and I really do like them. Even though some of his pieces are not that old, they do have that antique look about them. To find two, within a short space of time is even better. During my research I noticed that various sites were claiming different dates to when Charmouth pottery ceased trading. Does anyone know the precise date?
