Vase with blue flowers and gold highlights, impressed mark HH or ttt?
Found this handsome vase recently and haven't been able to id the impressed mark - tbh, not sure what to search on: is it ttt or HH?
Red clay with whitish glaze and handpainted flowers - bluish-black leaves, bright blue petals and gold stamens, with bluish-black and bronzy-gold lustre bands around rim and base.
Base foot hasn't been bevelled round the edge so it's got chipped.

Re: Honor Hussey, Butley Pottery
It's made by Honor Hussey - Butley Pottery.

Re: Honor Hussey, Butley Pottery
The Merge put climberg64's post at the bottom for some reason (probably driver trouble!), so I've "de-wibbled" the old ID thread, so it all makes sense (hopefully).

Yes, merging always merges in date order so usually needs de-wibbling afterwards to make sense

Re: Honor Hussey, Butley Pottery
Her mark is very like that used by Henry Hammond and you do see her work attributed to Henry on occasions - probably because his work fetchs more money!
He only used red earthenware for about year c1950 and their brushwork and colour palette were quite different.

Re: Honor Hussey, Butley Pottery
There a similar pot to mine on ebay attributed to a gallery owner, because the gallery's label is on the base. I pm-ed the seller to say it was by Hussey but, although they acknowledged the message, they haven't changed the listing. It's been relisted several times and still hasn't sold.

Re: Honor Hussey, Butley Pottery
No, although the mark is similar to his, he only used earthenware for about a year (1949/50) and the decoration is nothing like his work.
It's by a female potter whose name might come to me.

Re: Honor Hussey, Butley Pottery
The name was Helen Hobson (1980-87). She has been Helen Gillam since then.

Re: Honor Hussey, Butley Pottery
Yes, it illustrates very well the fact that marks can often inform but sometimes mislead.
Also having checked her mark in BSPM it doesn't appear there with the elongated horizontal but the description of the works ties in very well.
So although I am 100% certain that it isn't by Henry Hammond, I'm not 100% certain that it's by Helen Hobson.
Maybe someone else can confirm or suggest another female potter with those initials?

Re: Honor Hussey, Butley Pottery
Would be nice if it was Debbie, but the mark is not quite right & I am fairly certain that his pieces are a little more understated than this.
Many thanks for your feedback though, much appreciated.

That is nice!
The marks are often confused. But as you said Henry Hammond was stoneware very much in the Leach/Staite Murray tradition.
