looks like Japanese Arita porcelain - as to age though, i'm not sure, but my gut says fairly recent.

Agreed.

Search google images for Japanese porcelain Fukagawa vase prunus you'll see one with a very similar mark on the base.
As for age, my guess is 20th Century, maybe fairly recent.
