I would guess african , the base looks like pieces I have from the Shona tribe Zimbabwe , but Hey Ho I might be way off the mark

Agreed. It looks as though there's a colour wash over the surface of the sculpture which is typical of Shona work.

Shona artists carve their works of art from verdite, serpentine stone and other materials indigenous to the Sub-Saharan region.
