Odd, really, that the same company that produced colourful and fashionable (for the time) items as seen in this thread such as the cat above also turned out stuff such as this Arthur Wood miniature plate, titled ' David Dines with Micawber'. Or should that be the other way around? I think that the majority of Wood's output was run-of-the-mill traditional stuff with only the occasional foray into the world of fashion.

May be Arthur Wood, often just numbered, don't recall a black one, though
the shape looks right.

Re: Arthur Wood & Son Ltd. (Longport)
It might be a dark purple. There’s another purple one online with the number 5272.
Cheers

Hi, thanks for replying. That was my initial thought but there is no handle to lift off and couldn't find anything similar on the web.

Hi….it’s a small flower wall pocket….the notch on the back is for it to hang or you could string it to hang and the small oblong gap is for a small posy or similar although I doubt they were used for flowers very often….1970s I think….

I found one described as a string holder, but it looks more like a slot for scissors.

Thought the same, is there a little hole at the bottom for string? can't see from the photos.

Looks very 1950s. The pattern Number is 5040.
ROYAL BRADWELL WARE may well be the pattern name, and possibly
was a specially commissioned design.

Thanks DD, but I thought the numbers were mould numbers, as they're all slightly different on each of the shapes.
And I've found lots of things with Royal Bradwell Ware on them but none of them look anything like my set.
I think the printed mark dates from the 1950s so that's a start.
