Is this an Empoli piece? Possibly Carlo Moretti?

Post by m a D. on Tue Jul 19, 2011 6:10 am

This is my first post so it's just a trial with one image first. If this works I'll do another post that will be more thorough with photos of the base and top as well as extra details in this description.

Fingers crossed it will work! :+)

PART 2 Is this a Carlo Moretti piece? Empoli?

Post by m a D. on Tue Jul 19, 2011 6:36 am

Hi,
I think that first post worked so I'll do the post properly now- yay! :+)

The base section is clear then orange glass cased with a very fine opal casing. The piece is almost transparent despite the white casing. The stopper is clear glass then a very thin opaque white casing and then a very thick clear casing again. Despite several layers of glass the base section is still quite thin (nowhere near as heavy as a Carnaby piece- this is quite delicate).

Here are the remaining images for this (base, top ect). This was found in Australia but it's certainly not Australian. I think it's Italian possibly from the Empoli region. Any info from anyone would be appreciated.

Thanks :+)

First instinct, because of the thin glass, the very watery layer of white glass, and the base finish, is that it's either Chinese or Japanese.
