Brass Dishes/Ashtrays

Hi

Need help identifying this! I'm assuming brass, very heavy approx 700grams diameter 6.5"

I actually have two both exactly the same but the other weighs approx 670grams.

Any idea what they would be used for? I think they have been used as ashtrays but don't have the cigarette holder bit.
