Cottees Poole Pottery Auction

It all depends on what your favourite period is. People have said to me that they think there is a good selection - but they are more interested in the 20's and 30's pieces. No real 'top notch' lots except for the Gazelle vase, lot 370. We'll be going as usual as we always stop for a few days nearby ( rspb reserve, the best pub in the south of england nearby etc. ). I live near Camberley and would be willing to collect any items that anyone has purchased on line which can then be picked up from me.

Did you guys get anything good at the auction? I forgot all about it until now

nothing really interested me i didn't bother. watched about the first hour on-line and prices were up and down

I have been holding back from buying Poole pottery on ebay saving my money for the upcoming Gene Thompson auction but I just looked through all the lots advertised on The-Saleroom and can only assume the best pieces were sold privately

It could be Dan although I have no idea what else might have been in the collection. I certainly see enough good pieces and whilst the early tiles and the 1920's and 30's animal type stuff is not for me there are a lot of collectors who are happy to pay good money for what are rare items. I've got my eye on a no. of other pieces.
As I will be there on the day and later at Peterborough I could arrange to collect any items that have been won and bring them up to P'boro in Oct.

just watching the first few 49er's sell at very good prices so don't think i will be buying much today

the poor quality Tony Morris living glaze chargers went for £300 - £380 which is very high in my opinion

Prices for the majority of pieces were extremely high. Consequently I came home with nothing, like many others.Still if people want to pay top money then that is their perogative and maybe the rest of us are undervaluing stuff. There were some nice TM chargers, surely it is difficult to judge quality unless you have the piece in your hand and can look at it up close.

sorry I meant the actual idea for the design was not that great but you're quite right,they may have been good due to the execution

I think it was as much about supply and demand for those pieces that made top money and that includes TM chargers as there are not many about - if any - at 'normal' prices.

They've never 'done it' for me plus they look nothing like a packet of crisps ! But then the thing with Poole is that there is a range/period to suit everyone's taste. I wonder if traditional pieces will still be in the doldrums, there is certainly enough to bid on but what I come home with - if anything - is very difficult to foresee.

Me neither, and they are NOTORIOUS for hairlines.

Off to Poole tomorrow morning. There are a lot of pieces that I'm interested in but I won't be surprised if I end up with just a few lots none of which were on my original wish list. Can collect for anyone in my area but you'll need to get in touch quickly.

PP do you B&B it? then go on Saturday? Postal charges are crazy. Might go for once but would mean 6:00AM start and I'm generally lazy and a 10:00AM person myself on Saturdays.

We always make a weekend of it. Plenty of time to view on Friday, maybe a visit to the RSPB reserve at Arne, Purbeck coast, Square and Compass pub etc.

Lots of Tm dragonfly chargers for those who haven't got one and a few onion vases too

very poor this time . I have still put a few bits in my watch list but nothing is jumping out at me

I wonder if they have been struggling to find enough lots to warrant an auction? Several of the lots could well be last minute fillers to bulk things out
