Bryan and Julie Newman set up a pottery in South London in 1961 making earthenware and stoneware pots and sculptural items.  They moved to Aller in Somerset in 1966 and established Aller Pottery.

Its the 'A' within a square, with or without a dot between the legs of the 'A', if that makes sense!

fairly large (5-6" width and height) lidded pot. I love the shape of this and also the decoration on the lid.

The marks that he used, including the different types of A, changed over the years, as seals for stamping the mark got lost I imagine.

The type of clay, glaze and style that I associate with Bryan's sculptural work, as opposed to the functional ware produced by him, his wife and assistants, told me that this was his before even seeing the mark. A mark, which the books would indicate is not right.

a vessel which has holes in the bottom so i'm assuming it's for draining cutlery when it's been washed.  Marked with an 'A' which is a mark i'm sure i've seen here before but can't for the life of me remember who it was.
