Mark almost filled with glaze - Mike Dodd
I bought this at auction as being by Phil Rogers.
It has been conclusively identified as definitely NOT by Phil Rogers.
The mark which is impressed is almost entirely filled with glaze and is impossible to read but I still hold out hope someone may recognise the style.
I’m not saying it is by Mike Dodd but looking at the mark is that a J coming out of the bottom?
TIA any suggestions - I don’t want to embarrass myself but if it is possibly by Mike I would contact him to confirm….or deny

Re: Mark almost filled with glaze - Mike Dodd
Mike Dodd is notorious for his glaze infilled mark. I have a couple. But it looks more like second from the picture. That glazing at the top looks distinctly messy and somewhat careless. What is the inside one like? Another possibility might be David Lloyd Jones from Fulford York. An Important Leach style potter whose mark was sometimes glaze filled.

To be honest I have a decent relationship with Max and it’s not worth the effort. I like Mike’s work anyway and I have learned something ….lovely human being that Mike Dodd!

My reply could be read as a little harsh - I was being a little tongue-in-cheek. Yes, good to foster these relationships. I have a lot of time for MD!
