VINTAGE THICK OIL PAINTING HARBOUR SCENE SIGNED E MARON FRENCH?

This is a vintage very thickly painted oil painting of a harbour scene which looks to be signed E MARON - perhaps French but any ideas please?

A general rule with paintings, the back often tells you as much as the front, i. e. is it painted on board, does it have labels on it etc.

Unfortunately no labels or info on the back and this painting is on canvas.

No problem - here is a photo of the back.

So it's oil on canvas and the canvas suggests some age. It's easier to tell in "real life" rather than images but I would think that it dates from the 1950s or earlier.

On the internet there's a contemporary French painter but with little information called Laurence Maron, who appears to be based in Valence, which is between Lyons and Avignon and a long way from the sea.

I know little about French paintings but suggest that might be a lead.
