Nick Tipton

The "squared" plate/dish below has been in use in my kitchen for over 20 years now and was made by Nick Tipton.

Nick had been the ceramics technician at Goldsmiths College on the ceramics course where Ruthanne Tudball, amongst others, had trained. The Head of the Department was the sculptural ceramicist, David Cowley, and Lisa Hammond had been a senior lecturer there before the course closed in the 1990s.

Nick was kept on and was still a ceramics technician there at the time around 2000 when this was bought.

I have lost touch with him and his wife, Itsuko Shida, and so don't know if he is still making pots but would expect that he is.

He was listed on the Kent Adult Education website, as a pottery tutor at Gravesend Adult Education Centre (I think it closed in 2019). Says he trained for 3 years at Epsom School of Art and Design. Lisa Hammond's bio says he helped her build the kiln at Maze Hill Pottery in 1994 while he was still at Goldsmiths
