Re: Black African woman wall plaque
You used to see many plaques similar to this when I began dealing 35 years ago and, if they had any indication of where they were made, it was a stuck on label. Often it might have only said "Foreign".
I don't recall seeing anything exactly like this and so I wonder if it might be made more recently - that ought to be easier to determine in "real life" than from images.
The originals date from the late 50s/early 60s.

Re: Black African woman wall plaque
This sort of thing was very popular in the early late 50's/early 60's. They were generally made of low cost materials like Plaster of .Paris from moulds Mass produced Decoration being simple and striking. Cheap and cheerful wall decoration for the big post-war housing boom.
From the chip on the back this looks like the same material and probably from the same era.
The rather exotic design looks odd nowadays. But they were striking exotic pieces for little money. Part of that same sort of exotic design trend that sold the prints of Vladimar Tretchikoff in large numbers.

Thank you Studio and Phil. I’ll not worry about the maker then although I did see a marked Marianne Starck one online yesterday when I was Googling! Thank you for the tip on Vladimar Tretchikoff - some more retro stuff to look out for. Still seem to be popular. Cheers.
