Rooke?

Post by skay on April 2nd 2010, 8:23 pm

I've been meaning to dig this out for a while. Its a vase I had a few years ago, before I knew to get base shots etc., i'm sure it was marked ROOKE, an indented stamp looking mark with a rectangular border around the word. Could it have been a Bernard Rooke?

Rooke ?

Post by big ed on June 11th 2010, 3:42 pm

I bought this lamp yesterday , it is made of stone has all the runic symbols characterised like the Bernard Rooke pieces , it has six separate parts and stands 2 foot tall , any ideas Wallwork maybe ? no signature on the base at all, it looks a very early piece.

It is enlightening to juxtapose "Fine Art" to "Modern Art"

Hi Big Ed, I also have a table lamp with similar Runic style symbols - it isn't marked Rooke anywhere but on seeing your example it may well be? I'll post a pic later and maybe it could get a yes or no vote?

Hi Phil , I am not sure about the first one either, it could well be one of his , however it doesn't have that oomph ! of some of his work , ....now the other one is a beauty ,I love it , you could email bernard and ask him about the first one -

rooke@gxn.co.uk he may not answer right away , but it's worth a try , Ed

Incredible to think I've just emailed Bernard Rooke in person!? Reminds me of that scene in the film "4 weddings and a funeral" where Simon Calow tells an american lady he will give her Oscar Wildes fax number!! Mad!
