Frank & Alice Asbury, Didcot
Frank Asbury was born in 1924 and trained as a GP. In 1980 in Didcot he met and married his second wife, Alice Bock, from Lembach, France. The Asburys moved into a bungalow in Lydalls Road and lived there together until Frank passed away in 2012. During his retirement, he took up pottery - as did Alice - and presented Didcot Health Centre in Broadway with plaques representing the seven ages of man, which still adorn the walls.

Would they be described as 'professional' potters? Its interesting as to where the boundary lies. A very large number of people muck about with making pottery in their lives, especially when retired. Some of them have great talent. Yet I can think of very few such people that are widely collected.

Moot point. They are in the Marks book. People buy studio pottery in the charity shops and want to know who’s Marks are on the pots. Makes no difference if they’re professional or hobby potters as far as I’m concerned. Plenty of professional potters who are no longer considered collectible, and hobby potters who’s work is very collectible.
