Early (18thC?) Chinese Rice Bowl

Nice Chinese bowl ..Seems to have a good age to this ... Guess its just makers mark as can not match up..

Looks 18thC. The mark is likely to be the potter’s equivalent of an initial, so he could retrieve his pots from the communal kiln after firing

Wood firing can take 5-10 days, depending on the size of the kiln, and has to be fed constantly. And the pots were handmade on an industrial scale in Jingdezhen.
In Japan they have several ‘rooms’ in a stepped kiln, built up a hillside. Because of the effort involved, it may only be fired a couple of times a year. The pooled expertise meant that even inexperienced potters could be assured of a successful firing.
