Found the website of the pottery Biron W, it's Belgian and they make some strange stuff nowaday's. Think this candleholder might be from the Art deco period, maybe? I've send them an email for more details.

lovely jug

this looks like a salt glazed base? but then we have a Galaxy of glazes over the body of the jug and plain pewter handle & neck??

any ideas?

It seems you were correct,I just found another saltglazed pot from Belgium and marked 'Biron'
