Need help to the origins of this box please Empty Need help to the origins of this box please

I have acquired this metal box with hinged lid, and ornate decoration with dragon form feet, it does not respond to a magnet at all.
It measures 11 x 11 x 5.5cm.

the top is flat and undecorated so is that meant to be used?

There are four small indentations one in each corner of the top which you can just see in the photo, can't figure put what they were for

it does look like a stand with storage in it

The griffins(?) look French. Maybe a base for a carriage or mantle piece clock
