A footed Stoneware pomander with brushwork, 6 in high.
Mark is small, but is clearly a small w over a small m, next to a large P.

Just had a message from Peter Clough confirming that this is by Steve Marr who used to work for him at Nantwich Pottery (hence the similarity in clay and glaze). Steve moved to Warmingham Mill Pottery - wmP mark - before setting up The Potters Barn - TPB mark - with Andrew Pollard in 1992.

Hi Naomi this is an Oil Burner (reduction fired stoneware), one of our best sellers around this time (late 80's early 90's).
The glaze/decoration were a development on Farnham college recipes where we studied from 75 to 78 setting Warmingham Mill Pottery up in 79 and moving to The Potters Barn in 1992.

Many thanks for the information Most Excellent
There's an eBay seller with several pieces listed recently, who is insisting that Peter Hayes told they are by him and 'Judy' Finch. Hence my investigation of the mark.

A lot of reduction fired stoneware from the 70's & 80's looks the same as there wasn't the colour range there is now but if we saw the item we could tell if it was our work without the mark. I hope they are not getting more for it on Ebay than we did! Happy

He insisted on listing them for silly money, then gradually reduced it but by then the damage was done; buyers are wary of sellers who misrepresent the pieces they list for sale.
