Interesting piece, there are so modern versions in thin metal finish available in the USA so could be from them but this one has the age and is solid cast sides.

No it's hard aluminium that's just got a patina from age. I may polish it up today

A lot of the aluminium wine racks and bowls etc that I'm finding on google are made in India.
