help with the price of water color painter T.B.HORNER 1875
Can anyone help with the price of watercolor painted and signed by T.B.HORNER dated 1875, picture of three ships one of them is probably HMS ship.... done a little research on this painter and found one of his work sold by bonhams bone street 2009, that's all i know, but i purchase this today because the detailing of the ships is remarkable.

I'd advise taking it to an auction house. They have access to the Art indexes with sale prices for every artist who's worjs have been sold at auction. These are subscription only. I don't know if anyone on here could afford to subscribe to them.

I don't subscribe to the Art Index because of the price but the Bonhams one you mention went for £188, including premium. So if you add a little on top for VAT it was just under £200.

It was a watercolour dated 1867, 25cm by 39cm and sold in 2003.

Over the years the big London auction houses have become less likely to take items that they believe will fetch less than £500.
If you have no luck there it might be worth trying Roseberys in West Norwood. They always have a large picture content to their sales.

morning john yes you was right i was in touch with bonhams and am been told in as much it won't fetch more than a 1000 pounds they wont put it into auction... that because of the size of it is only worth 600 to 800.

If an auction house tells you that you shouldn't really believe their estimate. From my experience the major London auction houses value above a realistic estimate when they don't want to take an item.
Now I know nothing about the value of this type of art but I would be surprised if it made half of what they are saying.
