Geoffrey Maund beaker?

Post by vanmann on June 26th 2010, 8:06 pm

Picked up this beaker today which is marked MAUND & LR on base. My first thought was that it was by Geoffrey Maund but the mark doesn't appear to tie up with his and if so what is significance of LR. Has anybody got any thoughts on this please.
Thanks John

LR and the hand written name might point to a trial?

Maund is/was his surname. He worked in Croydon from 1952 when this mark was used and changed his mark in 1961. I'm not sure how long he continued after that.

With several things in the British and Studio threads it could be argued that they could/should be in the other thread.

On this occasion I think this is the correct thread as, although on a fairly small scale, the output was not one-off individual pieces but numerous examples of the same shape and pattern. It was also a limited company, which isn't the case with individual studio potters.

Inreply to Geoffrey Maund beaker? Post by vanmann on June 26th 2010

Post by nbjr1 on November 16th 2015, 12:54 pm

I realise that this post was 5 years ago, however, my father Laurence Rabson was Geoffrey Maund's first glaze artist and worked with him in Purley - which explains the LR signature, this will be an early Maund beaker as he used a stamp on later works.
