old ovoid jar possible Asian mark and ideas ty Empty old ovoid jar possible Asian mark and ideas ty

First of all thanks to all who have responded to my posts. Here is another old piece I picked up the only reason i bought this ( for 2 bucks) is perhaps a raised Asian mark i might just be seeing things. Yes looks like kanji marks on a storage pot.

It's a traditional form so difficult to date.

I think what you're seeing its little bits of clay remnants on the base that weren't smoothed out properly. The shape is Asian, but the quality isn't. I have a sneaking suspicion this may be middle eastern in origin. Naomi is right that this was probably used as a storage jar, much like Chinese 'ginger jars'. It looks quite old though. Try doing some searches for antique/stoneware/middle eastern (Syrian, Israeli, Persian, etc.) jars/vases. Maybe you'll come across similar pieces. Good luck!

If you turn the photo sideways it looks like three vertical kanji marks
