Hello new here so all comments on my post are welcome. Was at an estate sale which featured many interesting old pieces and this is what hit my eye.
the covered dish stands about 6" tall and is about 8" wide and features a rough clay like finish. the base has a design which I show in my pics as well. the metal adorning the piece looks to be copper. This home had a number of old Asian pieces and I am wondering if this is consistent. any comments are appreciated. https://i.servimg.com/u/f57/18/57/17/22/dscn5515.jpg https://i.servimg.com/u/f57/18/57/17/22/dscn5516.jpg https://i.servimg.com/u/f57/18/57/17/22/dscn5517.jpg

The decoration on the metal looks like Islamic script . The shape is typical of Islamic pottery used for serving food (I'm sure there's a name for it). As to age, I suspect its mid 20th century.

Thank you the script is a scroll design not Islamic wording but I see the general Islamic angle. Thanx

The piece of cookware is called a tagine.  Possibly Moroccan. As to age, etc. I have no idea :)

The colour of the clay would fit in with it being from the part of Africa around the Sahara Desert. As for age, with something like this that stylistically has remained the same for a very long time it really is impossible to give an accurate assessment from images. Not easy if you have it in front of you either.

Agreed, I was thinking Saudi Arabia; the sort of thing that may be used by one of the nomadic tribes.
