Viasetti Lasi OY – anyone know this?
Just wondering if anyone knows this name - seen a glass bird (similar to Iitala) advertised under this brand, but never heard of it.

Is that the one on ebay at the moment - they sold a very similar one for £30?
It is similar to one with a label that sold for $125 in the US. (Listed as IITTALA / ARABIA ART GLASS BIRD - marked VIASETTI OY - FINLAND).

Doesn't make much sense, as Lasi oy is Finnish for Glass Ltd. and Viasetti looks and sounds very Italian.
No idea but it might be code for "Made in China"?

Very good point!
(Yes, that's the one Naomi)
On edit: A bit of digging around has told me that there seems to be (or have been) a Finnish glass manufacturer called Viasetti in Viiala, which began trading in 1999. That's where these objects come from. Can't find much else so far.

Lasi oy is Finnish for Glass Ltd.
Ah, that explains all the other Lasi Oys linked with other glass manufacturers.
Found this:
Seems the Viasetti art glass studio did exist - making glass birds - but it must have been fairly short lived. It's website is no-longer online.Viasetti OY - www.viasetti.fi
Suupuhallettua käyttö- ja koristelasia / Blown glass
You'd probably have to speak Finnish to search further.

Yes, there's little information out there. I was wondering, not being Finnish, if Iittala was Finnish for 'Italy' or 'Italian'? That could mean that the name Viasetti was chosen to conjure up Iittala, in the same way that their glass birds 'conjure up' (rip off!) Oiva Toikka's Iittala birds?

Afraid I don't know any Finnish so I couldn't comment on the Italian sounding name. (For all I know it might have been set up by a designer of Italian extraction).
However, your comment about their glass birds ripping off Oiva Toikka's ones is probably closer to the truth.

Re: Viasetti Lasi OY – anyone know this?
Hello all, this bird and the one previously sold are my listings.
The company was short lived and the quality of the glass is exceptional. Not intended to be confused with Iittala, but a company in it's own right. I have dozens of this style of bird....all Scandinavian, from many different studios, and I can assure you they are not a rip off, not Chinese and certainly not intended to be copies of Oiva Toikka birds which in themselves are distinctive in the way the gather is made to form the head.
Because Viasetti Glass Studio ( Lasi Oy) was short lived, these birds are rare, however, because I have collected so many different ones, I have to make room in the display cabinets. I had hoped they would sell together as the fiirst and largest one had the Viasetti label still attached. For reassurance anyone who thinks this might be a rip off copy, please see the feedback for the one previously sold and another one which sold much earlier this year.....they are beautiful.
Like you, I am a glass collector and pride myself on the quality of the glass I sell and mycareful packing.
I hope this reassures you all.

Hello
i must say i was happy to run in to this.
and i can confirm they are hand made in Finland , Akaa. I used to work there so i know. It was alive about 1999 to 2005 or so thou it struggeled through the last of it´s years.
most of the birds are made by Matti Väisänen or Tommi Pulakka. And we made very much differend glass art other then birds.

Hello liriel,
how wonderful to 'meet' a member of this art glass team. I also have a glass angel made by Viasetti, I wonder if you might know who the makers of the Angels were?
I love the birds and hope the new owners will enjoy them as much as I have done.
Do you have any reference to information where I can find out more about the glass studio? I would love to know why it was called Viasetti and what other pieces were made.
I do hope you will look in again and possibly have some information.

How interesting! Looks like Viasetti is a studio to look out for, then, and my apologies for casting aspersions.
