Murano sommerso vase
I was wondering if anyone could identify this
It looks to me to be similar to or in the style of some Flavio Poli sommerso vases. Presumably Murano. No markings
22cm high, 14cm wide

Re: Murano sommerso vase
Thanks. It could be, but I don't know enough about Murano's colour combinations to be sure.

Reserved yes to Murano, definite no to Flavio Poli.
Looks to be quite nice quality, though.

Thanks Nic and Naomi
Nic the no to Flavio Poli - is this based on the colour combinations or shape or both?
thanks again

Re: Murano sommerso vase
Both, plus the finish isn't quite good enough. This is the base of a Poli sommerso piece - note the mirror-polished finish and the chamfered edges:

Sommerso glass and Flavio Poli is a bit like opal-cased glass and Holmegaard - they're both the best known names for the type of glass, but didn't actually actually make very much of it (at least compared to the amount attributed to them).
The chance of any given piece of sommerso being Flavio Poli is vanishingly slim considering the very limited output of it by Seguso Vetri d'Arte vs. the vast output by other factories.

Thanks Nic, very helpful...
Presumably numerous Murano factories were churning out glass in this style over a long period

Re: Murano sommerso vase
Interesting - that info about the base gave me a clue about mine (see Is this Flavio Poli thread).
