Hello everyone; I picked up this rather heavy, but broken bird today. Its beak has been chipped.
Does anyone know if I can repair it? Sand it down in any way??? Im up for a challenge Damaged glass bird 648347

Also I dont know who its by (if its Chinese, its going in the bin! Cheeky ), so if anyone knows or has any idea - that would be great. thank you x

Looks like it might be Antonio Da Ros for Cenedese (Murano).

Polishing small chips is easy... but not that cheap. You'll need a very fine grit diamond whetstone to take the chip out (sandpaper is too coarse), and then several grades of diamond paste on a felt bob, applied with a hobby drill, to polish out the marks left by the whetstone.

ooh that sounds far too technical for a bloke like me!

Do you think I could take it to a Jewellers? will they have the right equipment?

mmmmm........in my humble opinion, my piece doesn't quite look like the real thing. No signature and the shape is not quite right Shrugs

If you wanted to get it fixed professionally, you'd have to get it done by a glass restorer. Unless your jeweller friend is very nice.

Actually, I'm fairly sure that the bird is Cenedese - they were all made by hand, and for quite a few years, so each one is different. Some had elongated bases, some didn't, some had the bubbles, some didn't. Etc...

And not everything Cenedese did was signed either - I've had quite a few pieces with just labels.
