Slipware Jug - Peter Fishley Holland ( not Chris Lewis )
The jug is 5 3/4 inches high with a diameter of 4 inches. It has an earthenware body and is strongly made with a good wide handle. The decoration is kept to a minimum and it has an impressed mark to the bottom which is the letter H with what seems to be a shepherds crook through it! ( I dont think it is meant to be the letter S) I would be very happy to receive any ideas as to the maker of this very handsome jug. Regards, stillscurrying

Hi, just found your mark when I was looking for something else. Your jug is Danish. Scroll down to near the bottom under the monkey

Unfortunately not Danish. Haven't id-ed the mark yet, but this one is commonly quoted as being the maker, but they don't do slipware.
Edited to add it's been IDed as Peter Fishley Holland, but since the original photos have disappeared I cant merge it with that thread

I don't know the mark but if you look on Ebay it is usually stated that it is the South Heighton Pottery mark, which it most certainly is not. This pottery was started by Ursula Mommens along with her husband, Norman, around 1950 and it was where Chris Lewis worked, making his own pots, alongside Ursula from the 1970s. Chris contines there to this day.
Depending on how much the seller wants to get for it, he/she will say that it is by Chris Lewis, who never used earthenware, or a "rare early slipware piece" by Ursula Mommens. Both completely false statements.
