Although Alvingham Pottery is no longer in business, one of their potters, Pru Green, is still working and based in Wivenhoe, Essex.

Interesting this. Porcelain and signed by the potter 'Lindsay Muir'. Does any one know about the history of the Alvingham Pottery?

Pru Green started Alvingham pottery at Louth Lincolnshire in 1966. Worked there until 1980,when presumably, she sold it. See a fair amount of Pru Green Alvingham around East Anglia, and On Ebay. Its a very distinctive stle.

Thanks. I assume if it was still going it would have a website.

Pru Green
Pru Green moved to Gwilli Pottery, Wales, and is now semi-retired but still making pieces in Wivenhoe, Essex.
From the Sentinel Gallery website:
From the Sentinel Gallery website:
Pru Green is a potter living and working in Wivenhoe, Essex.
Born in Sheffield
Gained a scholarship to study art at junior Sheffield College of Art aged 11.
At the age of 13 she discovered clay and knew early on this would be her life long love.
Begun work as an occupational therapist, in the field of creative ceramics.
Married and moved to Grimsby, began teaching at Grimsby Art College.
1966 bought an old wheelwrights premise, housed with petrol pumps, small convenient shop and milk delivery service. She transformed it into Alvingham Pottery opened a cafe, potters workshop and selling space, worked in a team and trained various people who are now working as potters in their own right.
Met the father of her children and moved to a farm in Wales.
Set up Gwili Pottery in Carmarthen, again worked with a team and trained fellow enthusiasts. Gwili Pottery is still running and is more successful than ever.
In search for a dryer climate Pru headed to Suffolk, upon the request of a relative found the small Essex town Wivenhoe with a property fit for her on Park Road. She designed an elaborate conservatory to fit in a potting workshop and hosted many great exhibitions in her living room.
2011 sold her Park Road home in favour for the mass project which came to be the Sentinel Gallery. Which finally opened in 2015.

Not sure what it is, but it has the full-name mark.

Re: Pru Green, and Brian and Sylvia Duffy, Alvingham Pottery
Perhaps a salt pig, or for hanging your spider plant?
Re: Pru Green, and Brian and Sylvia Duffy, Alvingham Pottery
A bit small for a salt pig, but you are probably right on a hanging planter.
Brian and Sylvia Duffy, Alvingham Pottery
Most of these I've seen were signed Alvingham but interesting to find a selection with just an incised AP mark - Edited to add, these are by Brian and Sylvia Duffy, Alvingham Pottery from the 1980s, who continued the pottery at Alvingham, making slipware, after Pru Green left to set up Gwili Pottery in 1980.

Leaf Pattern Vase Candle Holder Alvingham
It's bugging me - I've seen the pattern before, and ideas. Also I have brain freeze on the function, it seems to big for a goblet, too shallow for a vase...7" tall by 4" across.

Re: Pru Green, and Brian and Sylvia Duffy, Alvingham Pottery
Alvingham Pottery, I think

I can’t read the mark but the decoration is typical of Pru Green’s Alvingham Pottery from the 70s

Re: Pru Green, and Brian and Sylvia Duffy, Alvingham Pottery
Would definitely agree with the Alvingham and Pru Green. Must have been a very productive period, as there always seems quite a bit of it on the market.
