James Brooke slipware Pottery Empty Potter Now Known

Post by mal on August 23rd 2011, 8:02 am

I put this lovely tankard on eBay and I've had a message from a gentleman who says it's one of his early pots from @ 1962, made at the pottery in Appleton-le-Moors, York and signed JB by him - James Brooke. Excellent

It's amazing how sometimes information comes to light. I hadn't heard of James Brooke so it is interesting to have gained that information. Let's hope that he's desperate to have one of his early pots back!

I had another e-mail from James Brooke. He is now 78 and says he's creaking so he's not potting as much as he did. Sad He worked for a time with Dieter Kunzemann from whom he learned a great deal.

This is James Brooke. Appleton-le-moors pottery.

Last one for now, this little slipware vase height 7.5cm. Clear seal mark. Is the body red earthenware by the way? Anyone know this maker?
Thanks all, Pete

I think it's by James Brooke, The Pottery, Appleton-le-Moor, near Pickering in Yorkshire. He has an apple mark and produces slipware.
