Re: Burleigh Ware (Burgess & Leigh)
Lovely handled vase with purple lustre decor and interior, very Scandi in design I think, I was suprised when I turned it over to find it was Burleigh. Does anyone know who the designer was at this time, I'm guessing mid to late 50's.

Burleigh Ware 1930s Art Deco.
Hi everyone.
I have a Burleigh piece as illustrated, and wonder if anyone can give me any further information on it please?.
All I can find so far is that the backstamp indicates that it was created in the Thirties.
Many thanks

Re: Burleigh Ware (Burgess & Leigh)
You are correct, a 1930s hor's d'ouvres dish. I'm not sure the pattern names,
if they existed as such, were ever documented. Never seen that one before.

Re: Burleigh Ware (Burgess & Leigh)
It's funny I had an almost identical designed one in Pewter by Orvit (German) complete with the tree design cast into the body. That one was made about 20 years before this Burleigh ware one. Shows how designs get recycled for the mainstream. Think this would still be great for summer nibbles even after 85 years

Hi Ceramarchist
When tend to avoid giving values not because we don't have an idea what something could be worth but because we are guaranteed to be wrong about that estimate.
If your looking for an insurance value though. Then search ebay or any of the other auction sites for something similar and add 20% to get a rough idea of what it could cost to replace. But I doubt it would need to be singled out on any policy.

Laura Knight Burleigh Ware Edward VIII coronation mug
I have a Laura Knight Burleigh Ware Edward VIII coronation mug (MAY 1937).
Please see attached photos.
I have seen a lot of them.
However, I have not seen one with both the usual LAURA KNIGHT designer's mark, AS WELL AS the Burleigh Ware maker's mark.
Why both marks?
Is this rare, since I have not encountered it previously?
...and why 2 marks, instead of just the Laura Knight mark?
Please and Thank You.

Re: Burleigh Ware (Burgess & Leigh)
They would have bought in a load of blanks from Burleigh and probably from a number of other factories, to decorate for the coronation. Having the Burleigh mark won't add any additional value to the mug.

Thanks for the replies. I have included two photos of the handle on said mug. Let me know what you see from the handle photos.
Thanks again.

Re: Burleigh Ware (Burgess & Leigh)
Goddens has this mark in use up to 1912, but I think the some dates of the many
different marks used by B&L may be a little out.
As you say stylistically late 20s-30s.

Re: Burleigh Ware (Burgess & Leigh)
I have found, by accident, a piece of art deco by charlotte read on the web, with the exact mark. Now according to those that know Charlotte Read joined burgess and leigh in 1926 and left 5 years later for crown ducal So I will say the peice is definatly mid twenties
Thanks for the comment
