Re: Alan Ward, Whitstable Pottery, Derbyshire
All a little confusing as I always had him down as a Derbyshire potter. Did he move?
or are there maybe two Alan Wards?
Same mark as above.
The mark on these is slightly different, with seriphs at the top and bottom.
The pottery was Whatstandwell (or nearby Holloway) near Matlock.
I have seen pieces incised with Whatstandwell pottery also.
I have another piece somewhere.

Looks his style, even without the partially obscured signature.

Re: Alan Ward, Whitstable Pottery, Derbyshire
Looks like Alan Ward's pottery to me. Anne & Theodore Whalley ran Haverfordwest Pottery which had an HP mark and seems to have been slip moulded pottery

Full name, a seal, and a sticker.
If only all pots were that easy!

Wavy Edged Shallow Dish Leaf - Alan Ward
About 22cm across at the widest points. Cloth texture on the base and 3 ball feet. No sign of a stamp.
Just wondering if anyone has seen similar or could id this for me?

Re: Alan Ward, Whitstable Pottery, Derbyshire
Great! thank you...sorted.
It is the same as yours dd and now comparing them I can see the splodge on the base of mine is a signature that didn't work out.
I've picked up quite a few of Alan Wards pots, maybe because of the close proximity to Whatstandwell, but I can't find much about him, is he still working?
I've driven past Crich Pottery so many times in the past and seen pots outside on the wall, thinking I must stop and go in there next time...but I can't remember Whatstandwell pottery.

Not had a porcelain piece myself before. Rather heavily potted though.
