Guy made this wonderful pot at the end of his career,the rough carving & dull glazes signify neglect and errosion whereas the extruded chimneys are his interpretation of the sea squirt,Guy had a facination with the origins of man, the sea squirt being one of our distant cousins and is also a possible reference to regeneration?

This pitcher-kind pottery (second from above) looks like a german Bartmannskrug (man with beard pitcher). Was very popular in the 15th and 16th century

it was intentionally similar, Guy made replicas for American collectors as well as making hundreds of pots in that style.
