Vase in Oriental Style - Keller et Guerin from Lunéville, France
Hi everyone. This is my first time posting on this forum. Thank you for having me.
I would really appreciate some help identifying this vase. It is 14" tall and 8" at the widest point.
I was able to find one auction listing from 2012 for a very similar vase. I can't post links yet and am not supposed to use screenshots, but basically the listing is very short and just says: "Gold and Enameled Porcelain Vase in Oriental Style, possibly English, c. 1920"
Other than this, I can't find anything else online. I'm really hoping to identify the markings on the bottom, but I searched all the way through a 700 page book on British pottery marks and couldn't find it. Granted, it was an older book, so if the marking is more modern, it wouldn't have been in there.
Thank you for your time.

I'm afraid I'm unfamiliar with early 20thC Art Pottery. Looks like a GK or KG monogram. It might be a decorator's mark if the pot was thrown in a factory. French might be possible, but I'd expect to see a factory mark if it was 20thC.

Not a name I've come across before, but the marks look like a match

Thank you for your confirmation. I've tried researching Val Gabri and there is very little on this artist, just that there are a couple plates being sold online right now that were sourced from Normandy and a plate that went to auction in 2023 in France. Probably not a well-known artist.

The only Val Gabri I can find is a chateau, not a person. It was at Bures in Normandy and bore that paticular name from 1867, when it was owned by one Gabrielle Elluin.

There is a sale catalogue of the contents of Val Gabri online:
https://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/bpt6k12425448/f14.item.r=%22val%20gabri%22
But without knowing the precise connection of the mark with the house it's difficult to know what to look for .

Thank you for finding that. I think I found the listing. Unfortunately it doesn't provide any real details on the piece, but it is a neat link to the history of the piece. I think that confirms that the vase was from Val Gabri, but not by an artist by the name. This also dates this piece to a little older than I originally thought, so that is neat also.
I submitted the vase to Roseberys London for an appraisal, partly because their logo looks exactly like the "R" that is on the bottom of the vase. I'm hoping to hear back from them soon if there happens to be any connection.

Amazing! You got it! That's definitely the maker. And that even provides a general date of manufacture. Thank you!
