Triangular Pottery Dishes with Abstract Patterns Signed "Sargen"
Very well done decorative ceramic plates signed "Sargen" on the bottom.
They're about 6" wide and the height has a nice slant.
I couldn't track any info down at all so this name is a totally mystery.
Hoping someone can ID them. Thanks!

They’re lovely!
Mark may be Sargon?
There was a German company Ceramico making vases in a series called Sargon in the 1970s. But I don’t think they’re related. But Sargen or Sargon may be the model name?

Thanks Ben. I think it's an E and not an O. If these are in fact from the series "Sargon" it's interesting that they marked them with the series name but not the maker's name. Either way I really don't know. Glad you like them.

There was an American sculptor and ceramic designer called Rita Sargen.

That could also say Sangen
There is a Japanese company Sangen Sangyo, who export hand made pottery.

I also initially thought the R was an N and did look up Sanger as well but nothing came up.
On the second plate with the lighter signature that letter reads more clearly as an R to me.
The other reply I got says it might be Rita Sargen, that's the most likely possibility so far.
Thanks!

I think Rita Sargen is the most likely designer for these dishes.
Im seeing a few table lamps from the 50s with organic lines and patterns that aren't too far off this these abstract designs.
One table lamp in particular on eBay has this signature which looks the closest to what I have although all the other pieces have block printing style signature.
THanks so much!

Also I just noticed the Japanese company was founded in 2003 and these plates are most likely from the 50s or 60s so probably a very long shot.
The founder was born in 1954.
Thanks!

Re: Triangular Pottery Dishes with Abstract Patterns Signed "Sargen"
I'm not saying it's not this Rita. But a couple of things.
Firstly, why do you think your dishes are from the 50's or 60's ? Have they been in your family all that time.
2ndly, this latest signature you've shown, is very different to that on your dishes. The g has no curl in the tale and the e has that mark above it - both unlike your dishes.
But that doesn't mean it's not, I just point out the difference.

Well it's just merely a guess when I date these to the 50s, from my knowledge and exposure to mid century pottery. Of course I could be wrong.
Yes the G is a bit different but sometimes designers have slight variations of their signature. All the other letters are spot on and the G is actually still the same style, just missing the loop.
Thanks for your input!
