Lava Glaze Stoneware Vase - possible Japanese mark? Empty Lava Glaze Stoneware Vase - possible Japanese mark?

Hi, I would really appreciate help identifying the maker of this vase.  The mark looks Japanese to me but I've been through lists of Japanese studio potters and can't find it. It's not the clearest unfortunately but the rubbing shows some of the detail.  The vase is 30.5cm tall. Thnks very much in advance Happy

Possibly the other way up, TPE or FPE? Not one I’ve come across before. I don’t think it’s Japanese. The glaze has a lot of bubbles which may point to a hobby potter. Always helps to have a photo of the whole base.

Thanks. That's why I needed fresh eyes. I'll see if I find anything with TPE

It looks well thrown. But I would agree with Naomi, all that bubbling is either a sign of kiln accident by a professional. Or an inexperienced hobby potter/ student. Either way, it would be a second.

Thank you. As you can see I am an amateur but I didn't pay much for it in a charity shop. I quite liked the bubbling texture!

Could the bubbling be deliberate, or a glaze test?
i also quite like it.

I've a small Cobridge Stoneware vase that is completely covered in bubbles. It was a glaze test and they only put it on the shelf as 'a punt' - they weren't sure if anyone would want it.
But I came along and loved it - so tactile, I couldn't put it down.

I don’t think the bubbles are deliberate in this case. Often means contamination like too much tin in the glaze. Possibly from a shared bucket of glaze in a College or shared studio
