RR initials on tall pot - Bernard Rooke?
Hi everyone,
We have had a rather unusual pot for some years and have not been able to identify it. It is heavy, and stands 31 cms high, 6.5 cms across the base and just 3 cms across the top. It was aquired from a shop in the west country which was stocked with pottery from across the country. The owner suggested maybe a welsh potter but we haven't found a match for the RR initials. Thanks, Brian

Thanks, Naomi, that was one idea we had. It is similar to the pottery of Rooke that we have but the 'RR' rather threw us.

Bernard Rooke for certain. He used several different versions over the years. He moved from London to Swilland near Ipswich in1973. His sons got involved in the pottery as well, and it virtually became a family production pottery. Hence there is quite a lot of it around. Over 130 pieces on Ebay alone.
It s the Big statement geometric decoration floor lamps that are in big demand. Because they are regarded as very retro 1970's. This is of a nice size as well

Thanks very much for that philpot. It is quite noticeable in our cupboard but only has a small footprint, just as well as we have far too many pots and the other half doesn't like it!

Does anybody have any examples of this RR mark on Bernard Rookes work?

If it is by Rooke then it’s a BR monogram that just happens to look like RR. There are several examples here

These are all either stamped rooke or handwritten BR. This is stamped RR isn't it? Also Bernard's work is more organic. This is more geometric.

Looks handwritten to me. There is a bar below the first 'R', so I think it's a B

Brian, Can you confirm whether it is RR or BR and if you think it is handwritten or stamped. Perhaps another photo from a different angle might help.

Also the few bits of Rookes pottery we own all seem to have been created more Quickly or maybe I should say with some abandon. This seems rather more studied or I may be imagining it.
