Dear Forum

Two posts, 5 pictures of a nice Leach Pottery bud vase. Height approx 4”

Believe it to be porcelain and celadon glazed.   St. Ives mark along with “England” stamp.

Wondered if form, glaze might point towards a maker?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Trevor Corser did make small porcelain pots at St Ives, But with no other mark and
the standard ware "England", it could be anyone.

Porcelain would have been extremely rare in the original Leach pottery operation. They operated to a tight budget, and porcelain was a much more expensive medium. Moreover a lot more difficult for the apprentice to do quickly.
Four inches is also a little big for Leach bud vase.

Thanks Denby and Philpot for the corrections and info .

Appreciate your expertise as always. Was hoping form and glaze might illuminate a possible user but note that no personal mark makes it very difficult to apportion this piece to a potter.

As mentioned it’s a lovely piece.

Amanda Brier is a name to throw into the mix.She worked at the St Ives pottery from 2000 with Trevor Corser and Joanna Wason. I have had a couple of pieces of hers. This one reminds me of them. Look at the Google images and see what you think. It might aslo possibly come from the modern St Ives pottery incarnation.

This would have been made at the Leach Pottery in the late 1960s into the 1970s and was part of the "Standard Ware" range. Most of the range was, as the names suggests, of a standard size, clay and glaze. However, these small bottles were of different shapes and sometimes with brush decoration too.

In the 1975 Standard Ware catalogue they cost £2 each. As a comparison yunomis were £2.25; cane handled teapots were £5.95 and mugs £1.25.

Hi Studio-pots

Thanks as always for your kind help and insights. Greatly appreciated. Interesting to know that there were variations of glaze and dec for these bottles which evoke Korean and Japanese ceramic styles for me.

Is this light celadon glaze a Leach Pottery signature?

Kindest and thanks again for all your help

The England stamp was discontinued after Bernard’s death so too early for Amanda Brier
