Unusual Earthenware Form.

Dear Forum

An interesting Earthenware form. Long, cylindrical, pinched at top. Not hollow. Sporadic  glazed banding and nodules to both ends. Incised P to base but may be other illegible marks.

Length - 18.5”

Diameter - approx 2”

Would love to identify maker.

Geoff Cox work is v.interesting but couldn’t match any pieces to the style of this one unfortunately.

People have suggested it’s quite modernist and maybe even possibly anthropomorphic though what animal it alludes is tricky to say!

looks like it came out of a pug mill, are you sure its not hollow ? I would of thought it would be a couple of kgs otherwise

Apologies I meant to say that it is sealed at both ends but yes it must be hollow looking at the weight.

The form is hollow, sealed at both ends and the nodules are not pierced so therefore there is no access to the interior.

Some talk around it being constructed by a named sculptor but nothing to grab hold on apart from hoping that it’s form rings a bell with someone.

Additional anecdotal info just passed onto me. Maker is believed to be British….
