Dear Forum,

Photos below of what I believe is a small vase of continental origin.

Approx 6” tall. Decorated in a Majolica / Faience manner with naive animal and floral forms incorporated with Majolica palette decoration.

No marks or signatures. Would love to get an idea of potential age and origin if possible?

Many thanks as always

Thanks Naomi

Are there any tips for trying to date such pieces?

I don't think so. It's traditional pottery, made well into the 20thC

Thanks Naomi

Was finding similar decorative themes on older French and Italian pieces but hadn’t seen a similar shape but understand that this is a traditional often repeated piece.

Thanks

The trouble with this type of pottery is that it is often sold as Tourist ware in busy holiday places. Historical styles are often much imitated right across the board to catch the Tourist eye.

Hi Philpot

Thanks for your note. Agree on all points you make. Will no doubt keep my eye out for similar pieces to piece together a back story as and when…

Thanks again

Cheers
