Inuit Carvings

I love ethnographic stuff. This is my fledgling Inuit sculpture collection (and some other stuff).

I really like these sculptures , innuit & african shona types are well woth collecting imo.

as these people join the modern world the examples of their lost culture will become more collectable,they can then buy it back and remember the times when they had land and an identity

Found 3 more pieces in local charity shops to add to my Inuit collection




Especially pleased with the middle one that is fully marked and a good size (5" long).

Do they have base markings?

Yes  first two probably 1982 and possibly by the same person although they were bought separately. The third one probably 1997.

I saw a chart somewhere with the Syllabic symbols deciphered and disc numbers , nice pieces , I like the soapstone carvings , Shoni stuff looks great too .

I've seen a number of Shoni pieces recently, modestly priced. A good time to buy.

Yes , one or two would be nice .

Stone type points to Resolute Bay (Qausuittuq) origin

Unusual greenish coloured stone

Couple of Inuit carvings.

A strange one. The face looks Chinese. Feels like stone but there are faint mould seams down the legs, so maybe some form of black glass








Another one. Again, feels like carved stone but there’s a seam round the middle. Maybe carved coal or basalt

Lovely Inuit mother and child carving, via ppcollectables

Inuit mother and child carved from an unusual brown stone. Incomplete; possibly missing a wooden sled.
The stone type might be from Lake Harbour (Kimmirut)

Various pieces found while sorting out the bookshelves. I’m embarrassed to say I don’t recall buying the pair of seals and walrus, or the seal in the post below. Always nice to come across surprises like this
