Art pottery vases man on swan sleigh & reindeer
Bought a group of these today.
Incised & slip decoration.
No marks except one has 573 on the base.
Are these Swedish? 1920s -1940s era?
I know you get reindeer in Scandinavia and Russia.

My first thought was Torquay ware, but definitely an unusual subject.

I also wondered Torquay and then I thought not but despite it being all around the place here, I don’t know much about it. Is that a continental 7 on the mark - but I know there were foreign potters in Torquay!

That reddish earthenware clay is an Iron rich one. Something you see a lot of in work that uses Devon Clays. So my vote is Torquay for a near cert. Back in its day when the West Country was a very very large holidaymaker destination, the 'torquay' gift industry was huge.
The subject might well be setting out to sell in the Xmas gift trade.

Good call. Thanks Philpot . I know someone who deals in Torquay ware so I can check them out. I think Christmas gifts sounds right too. The Torquay potteries made a lot of really different pots - Im always seeing things new to me.
